Feel free to say hello! (A thread of introductions)

As the community grows, I thought it would be fun to have a place where people can introduce themselves to one another. :handshake: Obviously it’s not an obligation, and feel free to leave as little or as much as you’d like. I’ll start.

 My name is Sam (photo in profile & down below). I’m originally from the United States (Philadelphia). These days, I live my life out of a backpack. For the past 2+ years I’ve been on the road. I started in southeast asia, spending time in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia. To say it was a life-changing experience would be a the understatement of my life. While in Cambodia, I serendipitously met @kristof. We got to talking about, well, life, and its complexities and not long after, I was in Ibiza joining the ThreeFold community.

Prior to that, I spent eight years in New York City (with a year in the middle in San Francisco), working for VaynerMedia, a now well-known digital advertising agency. (I actually ended up there quite serendipitously as well. But that’s for another day.) I was fortunate to be there from the start, when we were just four people in a conference room, and saw the company grow all the way up to 700+ and four offices in two continents by the time I left.

New places, cultures, and experiences bring me joy. I see them as opportunities to learn and evolve and open my mind. Having been fortunate to travel quite a bit, particularly in the last few years, I’m inspired by the beauty of our differences, yet humbled by the similarities of our desires. I’m a bit idealistic, with some cynicism sprinkled in. I envision a world without borders. Really, I just want everyone to have the same opportunities. We have so much to learn from each other if we’d just open our eyes and our ears and our hearts. I see ThreeFold as an endeavor that can help bring great solutions to our world.

Other things about me:

  • I love my family, friends, animals, sports, food, & chocolate.
  • I have sixteen or seventeen tattoos. Most of them relate to a moment or time period in my life.
  • I once got to shake Barack Obama’s hand after watching him miss his par putt on the 18th hole.
  • I believe that change is the only constant, so we might as well get used to it.
  • I live in the grey. For me, nothing is black and white – and nobody really knows anything.

Hoi! (That Dutch for Hi),

My name is Roel.

My passport says I’m Dutch but the Dutch call me a Spare-Belgian, and the Belgians call me an 'Ollander. I live in West-Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, a patch of no man’s land that I call home for 32 years already. I live here together with my wife Cindy and 2 kids Ella & Elai.

After graduating with a bachelor in visual communications at Luca School of Science and Arts I was supposed to go off and make waves in advertising as an Art Director. If only the market didn’t crash that exact year and almost no agencies were hiring at the time… A change of mindset would bring me where I’m at today. I started as an account manager/marketeer at a mobile app startup in Lochristi. I found out this suited me way more, as I’ve always been a bit of a jack of all trades. Combining my communicative nature with design and marketing got me another job at a large European company helping them set up a video streaming service. To soon turn back to the same office my first job was as a digital marketeer at a cloud company. A bit later I started at ThreeFold and this is where I’m still hanging out today as a jack of all trades in a marketing environment.

If I’m not roaming the forests or beachlines in the beautiful West Zeeuws Vlaanderen or at work in Lochristi your best bet in finding me is in any dojo near any of these areas. Teaching & Being a student of what they call the “gentle art” a/k/a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Besides that

  • I love craftbeers. the darker, hoppier, more obscure the better.
  • I used to roam and sleep in abandoned buildings taking pictures of these places.
  • I hope to one day own my own Brazilian jiu-jitsu brand for apparel and sportswear.
  • I keep the Lochristi office in shape by helping them out with kettlebell fitness classes twice a week.
  • I Have a gift to make anybody laugh out loud at least once a day if they’re hanging out with me.

Hi there!

My name is Sabrina, I am based in Belgium but I have Macedonian roots and I was born in Germany, so I’m pretty much as multicultural as it gets. I’m fluent in 5 languages, and am a delight to work with (quoting all my colleagues).
As a single mom to the cutest 4 year old girl ever (based on facts), I do my best to set an example for her by beating the odds and helping to make this world a better place. Being a woman of colour in a tech company that is doing good for the world, I must say that I’m doing a pretty good job at that.
I have been with the ThreeFold Team pretty much from the beginning of this adventure, and what a ride it’s been already. My main focus are the people in this community. I coördinate the support team and processes, and help out the marketing team as much as I can.

Here’s a little something about me:

  • My last name (Sadik) means honesty, and according to most people that is an accurate description of me.
  • My first name (Sabrina) means patience, which I do not have.
  • I love working out, food, sleep and my family & friends.
  • I unknowingly can look really strict and mean, but it’s RBF syndrome (google it).

Anything else you want to know? Reach out!

Sabrina
